Invasion of the Strawberry snatchers!!!

It seems some malicious critter decided my newly planted strawberries was a tasty treat planted just for it!  They tore a path of destruction through the strawberry patch and, thanks to the nice loose fluffy soil, pulled up the strawberries, roots and all!  In all they destroyed no less than 7 of our 50 plants.  That's 14% of our crop in one night!  Grrr!!!  I don't know what did this, but if I had to guess, I'd guess probably a raccoon.  Damn it!

All that's left are some roots...

They gnawed the poor strawberries down to the root, destroying the crown and all.  If they had just eaten everything above ground, the strawberries could bounce back, but pulling it up and destroying the crowns is an absolute knock out blow.

So now I get to figure out a way to keep those disgusting pests out of the strawberry bed.  Yeah... fun... :-(
